Creating a feed for Linkshare merchants

Submitted by btm on Thu, 2010-06-03 18:35 in

Hello,

I'm new to price tapestry and well, completely lost. Everything is setup and now I'd like to add about 10 or so feeds from various merchants within linkshare. Linkshare has a Merchant Query API that lets you query their full catalogue based on keyword, I assume this is how I would want to set it up.

Does anyone have any code samples or know where I begin? I have a link, now how do I use that in Price Tapestry?

Thank you!

Hi there,

What you need to do access the feeds for the merchants you want to include on your site rather than use an API. APIs are really only suitable for supplementing product pages rather than driving your site entirely.

LinkShare certainly provide product datafeeds that are compatible with Price Tapestry as I have worked with many users who are working with their feeds - their product name I think is "Merchandiser", so if you look around your affiliate interface (I'm afraid I'm not a LinkShare user myself) for this feature you should find access to the feeds for your merchants there. Perhaps if another Price Tapestry user is able to provide more information specifically regarding LinkShare for you I'll keep an eye out for any replies to this thread and post the information for you.

Otherwise, once you access to the feeds, the process of setting up your site (before moving forwards to set-up automation) is to first download to your local computer, rename the feed to something sensible such as MerchantName.csv - and then upload to the /feeds/ folder of your Price Tapestry installation. You can then browse to /admin/ where you can register and import the feed as described here...

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
David.

Linkshare datafeeds are not quite as simple as the other networks. First of all you have to apply for the feed. I have mine set up so that when I join a new merchant it automatically applies for the datafeed.

For the datafeeds go to LINKS > Data Feeds Then click on Merchandiser. That will show you what datafeeds are available for you. If you are stuck on this I have found Darren from Linkshare ( darrennewmark > hotmail.com ) to be very helpful.

Once you have an active datafeed the easiest way to download/fetch it is to enter the url.

ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@aftp.linksynergy.com/MERCHANTID_YOURSITEID_mp.xml.gz

Hope this helps!

Jill
Say you are registered to one merchant on several sites do you just use the same feed or do you use a separate feed for each?
Cheers

Darren

Thanks Jill/Darren,

I've contacted Linkshare about getting the merchandizer feeds setup. I'll post back with updates as I get them.

Thanks Jill
I didn't fancy setting up load of different feeds for the same merchants. :)
