Have you made sure that the file is saved as a raw XML source, and not in the display version that Internet Explorer generates (which results in the "-" characters that allow you to navigate the XML within the browser)..?
Normally if you have entered the URL into Internet Explorer directly, the thing to do would be to use the File > Save As... menu option to save the XML, which should then register as xml|COUPONFEED/LINK/. If you're still not sure, if you could email me a link to the relevant feed in your /feeds/ folder I'll download it to my test server and check it out for you...
