overwriting a feed with same from a different network

Submitted by Paul1107 on Thu, 2011-03-03 15:06 in

Hi David,

I'm having a problem overwriting an existing feed from the same merchant but through A DIFFERENT network.

I have deleted the previous feed, and installed the new feed, using the same name as previous, I've mapped the fields and then published, only for the "products" column shows 0 whereas it should have several thousand

The feed its self is 61Mb and there are products in there?

have you any ideas of what is going on?

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

It's probably unrelated, and rather just a registration issue perhaps. Don't forget the usual requirements for import are a valid Product Name, Buy URL and Price, and if zero products are imported the most likely reason is that one of these has been registered incorrectly.

As feeds are becoming more advanced, there is often nested information in child tags that is the field that needs to be registered rather than the top level, for example whilst it might look like "PRICE" is the field to register for Price, it is actually "PRICE/BUYNOW" for example.

If you're not sure, if you could let me know the installation URL and filename of the feed I'll download it from your /feeds/ folder to my test server and check it out for you.. (i'll remove the details before posting your comment!)

Cheers,
David.

Thanks David,

I've re registered the feed again but still the same, and made sure that there is a relevant element for each field during mapping, I have used "PRICE/BUYNOW" & "PRICE/RRP" with the optional "Price" & "Normal Price" fields, but I shouldn't have thought that would affect it?

The installation is: {link saved} and the feed is Very (very.xml)

Apreciate it if you could have alook for me please?

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul,

I just registered as follows:

Product Name: TEXT/NAME
Description: TEXT/DESC
Image URL: URI/MIMAGE
Buy URL: URI/AWTRACK
Price: PRICE/BUYNOW
Category: CAT/AWCAT
Brand: BRAND/BRANDNAME

...which worked OK - could you try the above (plus PRICE/RRP in your case) and let me know if that's still not working and I'll take it from there...!

Cheers,
David.

Would it be OK to check it out on your server now? - will probably need to add debug code related to the price / sale price mods...

David.

when you say you deleted the previous feed - did you also de-register it? are the old products still showing from the old network feed?

Hi gregor,

Thanks for that; as the feed has the same filename as the previous version it shouldn't be necessary to de-register as the Register process resets everything just as the de-register process would do...

David.

Hi Paul / gregor.

Yes - it was actually related to not having de-registered the previous feed as Drop Record / Drop Record If Not filters are still in place, but presumably invalid now that it is coming from a different network. De-registering before setting up the new feed would have cleared the filters.

It's probably down to the category - it's currently set-up to Drop Record If Not on the Category field if not LADIES. Probably the best thing to do is to remove all the filters, register and import fully and then you can work out the new Drop Record If Not filters required for the new feed...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

sorry I see it was my error in forgetting there were filters applied...

All changed over only to find that the categories were too broad (about 10 to categorise for +10,000 products)especially as its a dept store -- Go Figure. In the end had to re instate the previous feed to ensure I could pick out the items I need?

But I know what to do now when I eventually have to change the feed...

Thanks for your help again!

Paul
