Hi David,

Just a thought...

I have uploaded a few merchant products and have been "testing" the search capabilities.

It seems that the search criteria is pretty fussy, for example...

I know that this product is in the database

"17 Asus MM17D Silvergrey 8ms TFT 6001 D SUB 3 yrs On site"

and if I do a search for "asus" it will come up, however, if I do a serch for "asus tft"

it gives no results.

Is it possible to make the search facility match words instead of exact phrases?

Ok, im going to bed now.

Simon.

Hi Simon,

A more advanced search function is on the way - i've just started looking at using MySQL's FULL TEXT index capability in order to do just what you describe.

This will also enable results to be sorted in order of relevance; and that can mean returning results where not all of the search terms are present in order to catch typos and mis-spellings of additional words. I'll post to the forum when this is ready for download.

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

Did anything ever come of this, or is it one of the features that will be added to the "pro" release?

Incidentally, 'tis all coming along nicely, thanks for all of your help thusfar.

Cheers,
Duncan

Better search is definitely going to be "Pro".

Efficient full text indexing is not straight forward stuff; and would break the original purpose of Price Tapestry; which is, after all, intended to be a "Starter Kit" for those wanting to create a database driven affiliate website using the Magic Parser script.

As i've mentioned in other threads; I think the current "free" distribution has already become more complex than I would like; and so features like category and brand indexing will be removed and then become part of the more fully featured "Pro" version. I'm gearing up for the development as we speak; just getting setup with SVN to manage the source code between versions..!
