Category grouping - rather than mapping

Submitted by Kelly and Stuart on Fri, 2008-12-12 12:16 in

Hi David, hope you are well.

Is this within the capabilities of PT?

I have a site which I want to split up into sections because the categories page is getting too long.
So instead of mapping the categories together, can they be grouped to create an overall Main Category section which when clicked on will bring up a list of categories, then when the categories are clicked, brings up a list of sub categories? (for navigation)
I also want to use this as a bread-crumb trail so people know where they are on the site. home > main cat > cat > sub-cat > product

Also (if the above is possible) - Is it possible to incorporate a dynamic id tag of the main category so that a style sheet knows which navigation tag to keep highlighted so people know which section they are in?

Hope you get the gist of that!!

Cheers
Kelly

P.s. This site is run on zeus server to .htaccess is a no-go

Hi Kelly,

Rather than a code based solution to this, perhaps the way that I suggest creating a category hierarchy by using installations in sub-directories where the sub-directory name implies the top level category might be suitable? Lots more info about doing this in this thread - including how to create a top-level search from with drop-down...
