Google Sitemaps Error

Submitted by pauly on Wed, 2008-07-02 07:06 in

Google Sitemaps is showing an error for the following feed:

http://www.clikshop.net/sitemap.php?merchant=Tesco+Direct

Line 1 Parsing error
We were unable to read your Sitemap. It may contain an entry we are unable to recognize. Please validate your Sitemap before resubmitting.

How can I resolve this?

Hi Paul,

That particular sitemap URL seems to validating correctly now, so it may have been a transient error. Check to see whether Google is still reporting the problem after a more recent fetch (or clear the error and then wait to see if it re-reports the problem); and if so let me know and i'll look into it further with you.

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

Error still appearing, and in actual fact I have about 8 merchant product feeds now with the similar problems. I thik it is soemthing to do with odd characters, please see http://www.clikshop.net/sitemap.php?merchant=Oddbins but am unsure how to clear this problem.

Paul

Hello Paul,

Have you modified your site previously to allow extended characters into the merchant / product names etc.?

Cheers,
David.

Not that I'm aware of. I'm wondering if I need to choose a particular feed character format on export? The errors are appearing from tradedoubler. So for example should I choose ISO over UTF before exporting?

Hi Paul,

Could you email me a link to one of the sitemap files (the smallest / least number of products if possible) that is generating an error...? (reply to your reg code or forum registration email to get me), i'll then download it and investigate...

It may well be a character encoding mis-match as you mention...

Thanks,
David.
