max size of datafeeds

Submitted by clare on Fri, 2007-07-27 16:52 in

Hi,
Is there a maximum size that any datafeed can be , or is it down to the host service provider how much they will upload.

As I find with larger datafeeds, some 20MB+ that when trying to import I get a message trying to save the import script to disc, instead of it all importing.

Hi Clare,

There is no limit imposed by the script, but you are correct - physical and hosting limitations are what matter. It may be worth checking out the Handling Import Timeouts thread for more information. Either way, for large feeds I would always recommend importing via the command line script import.php as this will run from a terminal window and you won't have any problems with web server, proxy server or browser timeouts.

Cheers,
David.

Thanks, I have used the Putty program and the large datafeeds imported fine using Putty.

My host wouldnt remove the 15MB limit, as it was a shared server, but I have upgraded my account to a VPS server which was surprisingly inexpensive with many of the same benefits of a dedicated server, so I will be able to set any limit for imports in future... hopefully... if my sites get moved without a hitch.
