Trying to understand how you can get over 12,000 listings on google, and having been signed up to the sitemap thing for over a month now and i still have only one result, do you think the meta tags could be stopping me getting results?
i look forward to your advice
phil
Hi Phil,
As searley has mentioned; are you able to look at your logs and confirm whether:
a) Googlebot is downloading your sitemap documents
b) Googlebot is fetching at least some pages
c) You are seeing referrals from Google.
I personally don't think meta tags are a funtion in crawl depth, but obviously nobody outside Google would be able to say for sure. A number of factors are - primarily PR, and I notice that your site is currently at 0, so that is something you should look at.
In very basic terms, a good quality link from a PR n page will transfer more or less n-1; so if you have another site in your network that has PageRank 4 or 5 I would link to your site from there. But even then, remember that it can take several weeks for that to be picked up and the deep crawl to begin.
By the way, optional meta tag information will be in the new version, launching later this week.
Hope this helps!
What is your website url, maybee someone can help. ;)

I just logged into google sitemaps again and i have a Parsing error
said the following
"Parsing error (Line 1) in Sitemap http://www.mysite.net/sitemap.php?merchant=Play.com"
would you recommend adding individual sitemaps for every merchant?
i had currently only added http://www.mysite.net/sitemap.php
Hi Phil,
It shouldn't be necessary to add individual sitemaps as Google does pick them up; in this particular case it is complaining about a parsing error in the play.com sitemap rather than the top level sitemap index.
The problem I have at the moment is that there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the XML that the sitemap script is generating so I need to investigate this further...
Google only does full updates periodicaly (months between)
if i search google using site:www.mysite.com then it is still showing pages that have not been listed for sometime, and not showing any of the price tapestry pages whatso ever
BUT the google robot is visiting my site, and spidering daily, and i am getting plenty of visitor using terms related to the price tapestry products
showing that whilst the results are not showing using site:www.mysite.com
the pages are still indexed and active on google
