No password for admin and .txt files are not registering

Submitted by robertuva on Thu, 2006-10-05 20:20 in

Here is my admin site:

[snipped]

Note there is no password - how do I add that?

Also, I am registering .txt files, but all I see when I am done is REGISTER in green with the Filters Extras Import areas still gray...they are fairly large files (one is 20K items, one is 144K), but I have waited for 10 minutes or so. Any reason? I selected manually text, pipe-delimited, no header which is correct.

Hi,

Your site seems to be working OK. When only the "Register" link is showing, click the link and then the script will try to determine what format the feed is. In the case of 8869.txt, it correctly identifies it as Pipe delimited with no header file (a normal Shareasale.com feed).

If you then click Next, you can proceed with step 2 of registration where you can choose the fields from the feed that correspond to each of the required fields. In the case of 8869.txt, the fields are as follows (based on the first record, which you can see whilst registering the feed):

Product Name: FIELD2
Description: (no suitable field)
Image URL: (no suitable field)
Buy URL: FIELD5
Price: FIELD9

Then click "Register and Trial Import". Now, because this is a ShareASale.com feed, you need to use a filter to conver the Buy URL into your affiliate link.

To do this, when you have returned to the Admin home page after registering the feed, click "Filters" alongside 8869.txt. On the "New Filter" form, choose "Search and Replace" as the filter type, and "Buy URL" as the field name. Then, on the filter configuration page, enter as follows:

Search: YOURUSERID
Replace: [enter your ShareASale.com user ID]

Finally, click "Save", and then return to the admin home page and click Import to load all products.

Here is the main documentation for feed management:

I've removed the link to your admin area from your first post - but i've made a note of it so if you want me to help you register your feeds let me know and i'll take you through it by registering a feed on your site for you.

The admin area is not password protected by default because the method involves depends on your hosting setup and what web server you are running. If you have a control panel for your hosting account you might be able to setup a password protected directory, otherwise, assuming that you are running the Apache web server, you can setup password protection using .htaccess. There are plenty of tutorials for this on the web:

David.

Actually this is really odd - it worked for the install I did on tripbuys.com but not on pocketchanging.com. Why would that be? I registered the feed the exact same way.

Hi,

I notice that you haven't registered any feeds on pocketchanging.com - at what stage is it not working?

Let me know if you want me to try and register one for you - your admin area does look as if it's working OK - I can get to registration step 2 for all of your feeds...

Cheers,
David.

I have tried to register 4 feeds...you don't see them there? Can you try to load one? I am able to do it on tripbuys.com easily...pocketchanging is a problem.

Hi,

It was just because setup had not been completed - there were no tables in your Price Tapestry database. I have run the setup for you - now it should work!
