Google Sitemap Parsing Error

Submitted by cataleptic on Sun, 2007-02-18 21:33 in

Hi all,
I seem to get a google sitemap parsing error with two of the merchants I have. These merchants have alot of products.

And I think this is causing the error.

Does google still scan the site? Does anything get listed or do I have to fix this problem first?

Cheers.

Hi,

This maybe to do with invalid characters in the product names? Have you made any modifications to tapestry_normalise() at all in order to allow more characters as some whilst they do work are not safe for use in a URL and could cause a parsing error...

One test you can do is to load the sitemap that is causing the error directly into your browser, and the browser should display the same parsing error which will help diagnose the problem.

If you're not sure how to do this; load the sitemap from your site as follows:

http://www.example.com/sitemap.php

...and then copy and paste the URL for the one causing the parse error, for example:

http://www.example.com/sitemap.php?merchant=Merchat+Name

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,
There is no problem with the sitemap file.
And there is no weird charachter on the names or links of the two merchants.

It probably is the emense size of the actual feeds from these two merchants.

HMV and 101cd.com

Oh well.
