Feed Problems

Submitted by cataleptic on Wed, 2007-01-17 00:49 in

Hi all,
I have a problem with feeds larger than 35mb, the script runs and then collapses at the half way mark and gives me a blank screen.

Also does can the category mapping be turned on so that even if I select from the feed's field, it will only go to category selected?

Hi,

This sounds like a timeout issue. Please see the following page for information about identifying and resolving this sort of problem...

I'm not quite sure what you mean by only using the selected category. Do you only want categories that are in your category mapping to be imported; and for any other products to be dropped? There is a solution for this in the following thread, but apologies if I have misunderstood your question...

Hope this helps,

Are you sure the script collapses and not the browser? I have something similar with webmin. If a proces takes too long, IE gives me a 404, but the script keeps on running.

Hi John,

That is a possibility - i've known this to happen when connecting through a web proxy - some ISPs proxy servers will timeout even thought the script hasn't. This is why is always preferable to use the automation scripts with very large feeds.

Cheers,
David.

Hi,
I have added the time out length in a .htaccess file. And that does not seem to work.

I have a XML file thats about 220MB and it doesnt seem to work at all when I try to register it. The file is aout 2mb before I extract it.

I have also tried to register the .csv versin which works, but only imports 15500 items and the times out

How do I register the file with PUTTY?

Hi,

The automation script details are here:

Registration via PUTTY requires that you know what field names are present in the feed, as it does not have the graphical drop-down that you get when registering through the admin interface.

Do you have other feeds from the same affiliate network that you have been able to register successfully and are of the same format? If you have, this will help as you can look at the registration page (step 2) of one of those feeds to see what values you need to use. There is an example of the command that you would need to enter on the following page:

If you're not sure what is required for your feed; could you possibly put the .zip file up on your site in the /feeds folder, and then email me the link to your site and the name of the .zip file. I will then download it and work out the command for you and let you know how to register it.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
David.
