How successful have you been?

Submitted by homersbrain on Wed, 2006-11-15 19:21 in

I've just found Price Tapestry and it appears to be just what I'm looking for.

So my question is, out of you who have set up a site, how well is it doing? Did you set up the domain from scratch, and how long was it before you got a sale? Any info would be great.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

Like everything, what you get out of it depends on how much you put into it. One good strategy is to keep your eye on the networks and look out for new merchants in the less competitive areas. If you are one of the first online with their product feed; and already have an established site (Google sitemap registered, crawled regularly etc, good inbound linking etc.) then you can be generating sales for that merchant within 48 hours (particularly if the merchant's site is poorly optimised ;)

Since the change in affiliate policy at AdWords there are a growing number of Price Tapestry users who use the script to generate their landing pages as required for Google AdWords PPC.

My advice would be to concentrate (at first anyway) on a particular sector (for example "Laptops" or "Home Electronics") rather than just upload as many product feeds as you can; and develop a nice looking site and keep it up to date - perhaps adding lots of additional information to give you some unique content alongside the product feed data.

With regards timing it's difficult to say as there are simply too many variables involved to say what will and what won't work. As I'm sure you will appreciate from the lack of "hard sell" on this site; Price Tapestry is here as a tool for those who have already decided what they want to do as part of their affiliate marketing strategy, have therefore to some extent set their own expectations, and are now looking for software to support that strategy...

Cheers!
David

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I've got a 'niche' I'm going to start with. I'm a wholesaler with an ecommerce site and I rank on the first page on google for most of my keywords and the top for a couple. I get a lot of visits from end customers (ie: people not looking to buy wholesale), so I want to 'push' them in the direction of a retail site, and benefit from the visitors that leave my main site when they realise it's wholesale.

With risk of sounding all marketing-like, I have set up a site called David Fiske Internet Consultant - Build A Profitable Website which explains (for free!) how to go about setting up a niche website and how to integrate Price Tapestry into it.

I am building a demo site alongside it at Compare Sat Nav and explaining building decisions, SEO options, and most importantly revenue streams for the site at David Fiske Internet Consultant - Build A Profitable Website.

Whilst not affiliated with Price Tapestry or IAAI software, I have used the script for a few months now and have made several hundred pounds quite easily on one site by doing nothing.

I am intrigued to find how successful Price Tapestry can be when combined with a content site and hence came up with this solution.

Like I said, the sites are free to view and will hopefully help with answering your questions about Price Tapestry.

My advice in this case is simple - buy the software and try it out. I held out for quite a while before buying and wish I hadn't. It is such a small download but you know what they say - the best things in life come in small packages!

What David said. When I first brought my site online I got an initial sale within 2 days.
