Duplicate Category Menu

Submitted by ChrisNBC on Wed, 2016-09-14 15:17 in

Hi David,

I wonder if you might be able to advise me on the best/simplest way to modify the categories menu so that I can present the user with two initial options by gender and then filter the contents of each categories menu so that only those categories relating to the chosen gender are displayed. I’m wondering if there might be a way I can use the existing category menu structure I have, duplicate it and then change the dB query in each version to only display the chosen gender. Do you think this is feasible or could you suggest any simpler ways to achieve the same end result? I searched the forum but couldn’t see anything on this topic.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Chris

Hi Chris,

I recently posted a how-to for creating a drop down menu for a specific top-level category from Category Hierarchy Mapping so that may be just what you are looking for - check out this thread...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

Thanks for your message. I started to work through the instructions in the node 5927 that you recommended but realised the mod detailed will not work for me, as some of the code to be replaced is not in my version 14/06A and also because my version does not include the html/menu_categories.php file. I wondered if you could possibly suggest an alternative mod which would allow me to create two versions of the existing category menu.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Chris

Hello Chris,

Ah yes, I'd forgotten that I had helped you back-port Category Hierarchy Mapping into a 14/09A installation, and I think you're running a 3rd party template also.

Please could you email me a link to the installation showing the existing category menu, and describe from that how you'd like to split the menu and I'll follow up by email with you...

Thanks,
David.
