How to update from 12/10 to 13/03 ?

Submitted by marco@flapper on Wed, 2013-09-11 14:04 in

Hi,
Been a while. Saw there is a new update. Was planning to update the scripts but wanted your advice how to proceed. I have standalone Pricetapestry sites and also the Wordpress plugin.

I have used some mods and I'm a bit unsure if they are included in 13/03 or that I should expect some modification?
And what is the best way? Backing up old version and then just copying the new over the old while preserving config.php and then running import again.

I have the following mods:

import into temporary table mod

MySQL server has gone away

explode filter on merchant

http://www.pricetapestry.com/node/4388
additional indexed fields

http://www.pricetapestry.com/node/4550
superfluous spaces issue

Hello Marco,

The most significant difference is the performance improvements, and that I'm sure will resolve the swap issue that you mentioned separately. Rather than install and then attempt to re-apply your patches, it's probably easier for me to assist you in back-porting the new features into your current build - which is straight forward but best taken in steps.

If that sounds OK, in the first instance if you would like to email me your search.php and products.php I'll apply the new index mods and reply with a database upgrade script to create the new indexes - then we can move onto to back-porting the new features for you...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David.
Does the update make the PT sites load faster?
I'm still running on 12/10 with one that I did so many mods to I can't even remember what I've done.

Thanks
Bat

Hello Bat,

Yes - the new indexes increase search performance significantly (primarily through removing the need for MySQL to use temporary tables in most cases). I can easily apply just that part of the update to your search.php and products.php (for related products) if you'd like to email me those files. I'll reply with a dbmod.php script to apply the new indexes.

Cheers,
David.
