Standalone vs. Wordpress performance

Hi David

I was wondering if there is a significant performance difference between the standalone and the wordpress version in terms of sever load?

Cheers, IG

Hi,

In terms of the component of server load relating to generating the datafeed results (search results and product pages) they will be identical as the SQL code is the same; so it's really a question of server load imposed by the WordPress page generation on top of that, which does vary somewhat by theme of course but in general it's pretty well optimised itself so shouldn't be any problem even for large sites!

There are a number of caching plugins available for WordPress which might help if you find server load to be an issue - but do make sure that the cache period is compatible with the frequency with which you update your feeds - i.e. if you are updating feeds nightly, make sure that any caching plugins do not cache pages for any longer than 1 day otherwise out of date pages may be served...

Cheers,
David.
