Unmapped products

Submitted by JasonG on Wed, 2012-04-25 07:44 in

Hi David

As you know we have now displayed all mapped products, both manually and naturally mapped in the admin/productsmap.php area, which is great so thanks for your help on that one!

What I want to try and do now is create a new "menu/category" link in the admin area called "unmapped products"

This will then pick up "all" unmapped products from the various feeds and display them on a page. We would like to display the product name, price and the merchant name. Now what is probaly the harder part, add a tick box next to each product that is the same, then click a link to map the ones that are ticked

Do you think that is possible?

I think it would be a great feature for others if it can be done, it would make viewing and mapping hundreds of products quicker.

Thanks
Stuart

Hi Stuart,

How large is your database at the moment - if in the order of hundreds all on one page may be somewhat unweildly - what about using cumulative search strings to pull in more and more products until you think you've covered all the bases and then being to tick to map?

Cheers,
David.

Hi David

According to feed registraton theer are "Total Products 33776" not sure what that is made up of, mapped, unmapped or all

Not sure what you meant by your reply - sorry!

Just trying to explore an esy way to see all unmapped products (even if on multiple pages) and then somehow map them, in an easier way that adding one products, searching for similar and then mapping!

Thanks again
Stuart

Hello Stuart,

The total number shown on the /admin/ home page is literally the number of rows in the products table; so where you have many well-compared products it would actually be more than the total number of unique products on your site.

I understand the issue i'll experiment with some options on my test server with a large database and try to come up with something that will be a useful addition...

Cheers,
David.

Hi Stuart,

Apologies for the delay getting back to you; the main problem is the potential volume of unmapped products - it wouldn't be feasible to display 33K products with check-boxes to map on a single page so what I was suggesting would be to start off with zero products and a search box in which you can enter keywords. You could then cumulatively add to the list with different queries; and once sufficient products are displayed check the boxes to map and enter your preferred "master" product name and the mapping will be created automatically...

If that sounds along the lines of what you're looking for please could you drop me an email so that I can follow up with something for you to try...

Cheers,
David.
