Not all products importing.

Submitted by mikecdprice on Tue, 2011-10-18 04:58 in

Hello David,

I am noticing that not all products are importing. I tried to to slow import and it reverted to the same amount of products as the admin import area states. When I was looking it said it imported:

106259 products

Then it reverts back to 41431 products imported. Is there is a maximum of how many products to import on a single feed and why would 106259 products revert back to 41431 (and admin all at once reverts back to this same number also) I cannot figure it out. Is there something I need to adjust or edit?

I noticed it as there were search results and product not found when the link is clicked on.

Thank you,
Michael

Hi Michael,

The Slow Import Tool actually reports the number of records processed rather than actually imported. For a product to be imported; it must have present and valid required fields (Product Name, Buy URL and Price) and product name must be unique to the merchant.

In almost all cases of fewer than expected products being imported it is down to the duplication of the product name per merchant; as only the first occurrence of product name is imported. In almost all cases it is down to the duplication - check this thread for info on how to use filters to combine additional fields with the product name to make more unique names which might be an option...

Cheers,
David.

Thank you for the update. Can I force all products to be imported as there is only 1 merchant and 0 duplicate products. It dropped over 50k products from being listed

Thank you,
Michael

Hi Michael,

If there is only one merchant and no duplicates any products dropped would be because of a required fields validation error - Product Name, Buy URL and Price must be present and valid for a record to be imported. If you're not sure; if you could post the URL of the installation and filename of the feed that is not importing all records (I'll delete before publishing your reply) I'll download the feed from your /feeds/ folder to my test server and check it out for you...

Cheers,
David.

The URL of the installation is:

{link saved}

the name of the feed is:

Costumes4Lesscom.txt

it looks like everything is there. Please help.

Hi Michael,

Thanks - I downloaded the feed and there is a lot of duplication in the product name, as it is a costumes feed there are many records for the same costume but in different sizes.

This is where filters can come it so that all those records can be imported as separated products. From your /admin/ home page, click Filters alongside the feed and add a new Text After filter to the Product Name field. In the text box on the configuration page for the filter enter:

" %PermuSize%"

...without the quotes, but notice the SPACE at the start - that's important otherwise there will be no space between main product name and the size.

After adding the filter re-import and you should find many more products imported!

Cheers,
David.
