Autodetect Default

Submitted by gregor on Thu, 2011-03-31 23:41 in

Hello, Minor issue/question here. I've found that most of my feeds have several column values surrounded by double-quotes so I always use csv|9|1|34 as my feed format. Autodetect chooses csv|9|1|0 about 90% of the time and I always have to change it manually. Is there an easy way for me to default my feed format to the value I want, or change the autodetect routine to return that value instead of csv|9|1|0?

Also, A while back I had a bad experience using the Import option for an existing feed, so I have been afraid to use it. I use Register every time now. I think the problem might have been related to the feed format issue above (not 100% sure). If I choose csv|9|1|34 when I Register the feed, should that format be used again if I use Import? In your opinion, should Import work exactly like the original Register every time? Do I have anything to be worried about using Import? :)

Thanks

Hello Gregor,

The issue is that in some cases, the header row is NOT quoted, even though some of the date fields are. This is the condition that causes the format auto-detection to miss the quoted text aspect. I'll look into this further as is becoming more common and perhaps extend the auto-detection code to look beyond the header row.

In the mean time; as a double check, on Feed Registration Step 2 look at the sample data displayed below the registration form and check for any quotes characters appearing at the start of a value - that would be indicative that auto-detection did not pick up the quoted text...

Cheers,
David.
