Hyphen is replaced with strange 'word'

Submitted by tisbris on Sat, 2011-01-15 09:39 in

Hi David

I have some issues regarding product mapping and featured products.

When i make a new product mapping or feautured procduct - and the product name looks like this:

Focus – Raven 2010 – mountainbike

then the text in sql is changed to:

Focus – Raven 2010 – mountainbike

and then the mapping isn't working and the product is not listed in the features section.

Wordpress:

Pricetapestry: $config_charset = "utf-8";

mysql: UTF-8 Unicode (utf8)

i can change the strange 'word' in sql to a hyphen and the all is okay - any idea where to look to fix this?

thx

Hi Brian,

Sounds like it's s strange encoding of the hyphen rather than the ascii "-" character. What I would suggest first is when setting up Featured Products or Product Mapping, take the alternative names from the search results in Product Finder (Admin menu) - copy and paste from the results text box into the Featured Products or Product Mapping admin page and that should do the trick - if that's what you're doing already (rather than copying from the main site) let me know and I'll take a further look..

Cheers,
David.

Hi David

Your are right the problem only comes when I copy from the pt searchresult - if I use the text from within the product finder, then all is okay.

If i look at the html on the searchresult, then the hyphen is listed like this –

Does this help:o)

Hi Brian,

Yes that's a hyphen character from the unicode extended character set. Let me know if you're still have the problem getting the products mapped when using copy and paste from Product Finder.

Cheers,
David.
