Broader Matching on Product Title

Submitted by lunen on Sun, 2010-10-10 15:02 in

Hi David,

I'm getting more user feedback on my site, and one of the questions is I see a number of items that are the same thing, but they are listed separately instead of on one price comparison screen. As you know a lot of retailers title things differently so it's hard to get and exact match, also some retailers don't have a UPC in their datafeeds to join on. Is there a way to use more of a wildcard feature to group like titles so something like "thermarest sleeping pad" and "thermarest pad" and "therm-a-rest sleeping pad" would show up grouped together?

Thanks!

Hi Lunen,

Without UPC programatically matching together products is actually an almost impossible task, so this is where Product Mapping comes in. Don't forget that Price Tapestry's product mapping is keyword based, so when you create a new master product name (/admin/ menu, Product Mapping), in the alternatives box you only need to enter sufficient keywords to uniquely identify that product - ones that appear in all or nearly all the different merchant's names. Any alternatives that don't match the keywords simply enter on their own in full on subsequent lines in the alternatives box...

Cheers,
David.
