Can I just confirm this is how the automatically updating of feeds works?
You have a feed called merchant1.xml, import it into your pt admin then when you want to update you upload a new merchant1.xml feed and it iwll automatically update without having to do all the importing bits again?

When you first upload a new merchant, you need to Register and then Import. However, when you subsequently upload a new version of a feed you only need to Import (provided that the format hasn't changed of course, which it shouldn't have!)
Depending on the features of your hosting account, you might want to look at completely automating your site, so that feeds are downloaded from source and imported automatically - it's quite involved, but the guide covers pretty much all eventualities as unfortunately there is no "one size fits all" solution - more details here:
