numbers in search

Submitted by yoyd on Thu, 2009-11-12 10:42 in

I can't search correctly if I put a period in my search. For example I want to look for 10.1" laptops. I type 10.1 but nothing comes up.

Hi,

Could you perhaps email me a link to the installation, plus a product page URL that is not being returned for the example query and I'll check it out for you...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

That's something I was going to ask. In the new dist, does the search function search the normalised product name or the unstripped name? I've been using unstripped name alias fields for a while but when I tried to change the search functionality to search this value in instead of the normalised value, I ran in to a load of problems so wasn't sure how you've done it?

Cheers.

Hi Keeop,

It uses the full text indexed "name" field (the unstripped one) for queries that use the full text index; or the "search_name" field for the basic search method (where any keyword in the query is less than 4 characters).

The "search_name" field is the name field with spaces removed, which can improve search results if, for example, a user is searching for a product by model number and uses a space in the query when infact there is no space, for example "KDL 32V5000" - this would return a match against "KDL32V5000" by using a LIKE '%[keyword]%' WHERE clause on the search_name field.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
David.
