Help With A Feed?

Submitted by empiricalWeb on Thu, 2009-09-17 21:14 in

So I'm really a newbie here, and have been trying to piece together feeds from some merchants and ran into this :

The merchant supplies a URL to generate inquiries. I.E. : {link saved}

Itemid being an ISBN.

Is there a way for me to create a feed file using this function to use with pricetapestry? If this has been discussed elsewhere, feel free to link me to it!

Hello MJ,

As it seems that the link you have been given only provides information about a specific title; it's not something that is immediately useful in the context of loading product information into your site.

What is really required would be a feed containing the product titles, price and link to the actual HTML product page rather than XML meta data. If you're building a niche site and would like to link to just a few books at this merchant related to your site's topic; it is straight forward to construct your own feed using a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel. All you need to do is create column headings with the required field names (Title, BuyURL, Price) and optionally Description, Image URL, Category, Brand - and then enter product information manually, one product per row.

I would then recommend keeping the spreadsheet in its native format for easy updating; but when you want to upload the feed use the Export function (File menu) to save the data as a CSV file; which you then upload to your Price Tapestry site and then register / import as normal...

Cheers,
David.
