PT creates a SEF url based on the full name of the product.
If a name is long the url will also be long, which can in some cases not work well.
What would be optimal is having the name truncated to a set character amount, add the product id at the end and use as a SEF url. Like: adobe-premiere-elements-40-for-windows-xp-and-vis-create-43442.html
Now that I have been getting my hands dirty I see that PT works purely off the search. Basically all pages are created by searching for the string of the product or name/brand/merchant. This string is obtained from the SEF url, so by altering the URL the products page is not found.
Is there any way to go about getting shorter URL's without having to truncate the name of the product?
P.S
I am a novice when it comes to coding but code interests me allot, so bare with me..
The advantages of PT system is less DB queries for generating the product page and SEF url..?
Hello Andrew,
The potential problem here is ending up with multiple URLs for what is actually the same product page. It is certainly viable if you don't use the price comparison element of the script - is that the case, and multiple URLs wouldn't be an issue on your site?
Cheers,
David.
