Reviews with Title, Name, Location, IP Address, and Visitor Review Rating

I was wondering how trivial an effort would it be to add db fields and display for:

1. Reviewer name or initials
2. Geographic location
3. Review title
4. Visitor review rating
5. Visitor IP address (not displayed)

The first 3 items are probably the easiest to implement and would add some sparkle to the reviews. The last two look fairly complex to do. Especially number 4. I'm wondering where the "gotcha" might be with this.

On searching, I didn't find anyone else inquiring about this either. Any old posts I missed?

Hello Ken,

Can you elaborate on "Visitor review rating" - i'm assuming this is something different to the basic 1-5 stars review on the existing form?

With regards to adding fields, do you have phpMyAdmin or a similar MySQL administration tool that you can access the Price Tapestry database with?

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

A visitor review rating is like on Amazon, where visitors rate a prior review (comment) and give it a thumbs up or thumbs down. You end up display something like "24 visitors found this comment helpful, and 6 visitors did not find this comment helpful". The 1-5 stars is fine and works well.

Just to let you know, I changed the standard presentation on PriceTapestry to display reviews on the same page as the product. The user form to enter review comments is entered on the the original PriceTapestry /reviews/ directory.

I'm not too bad with PHP and MYSQL, but I'm slow, and hesitant to change stuff on a running site without knowing what else might be affected.

I have PHPMyAdmin, but I prefer to use SQLyog (free version).

Hi David,

I'm having the same thoughts - I think the reviews would look much better (and much more convincing) if they had extra fields. The fields I'd like to add are:

1. Review Title
2. Review Date
3. Reviewer Name
4. Reviewer Location

I have access to phpMyAdmin. Can you please let me know what's involved.

Best regards,
Neil
