I was wondering if there is any way the featured items on the front page can be got from the database automatically, the problem is, we are now updating daily which means many of the items we have put into the featured list no longer exist.

There are several alternatives to fixed featured products that people are using. Use the search form on the main forum page and search for "Featured Products" - there's quite a few options there but if there's nothing that suits your application let me know what you'd like to do...
