Incorporating PT into web page

Submitted by Alastair on Wed, 2007-12-19 04:34 in

Hello

Does anyone have any documentation that describes how to incorporate the PT scripts into a website? I'm not a pro but I have built a simple website before - I'm new to scripting, however and so, having downloaded PT I can't seem to get my teeth into it as I don't know how to see what it looks like and therefore see what I need to change to incorporate it into a website.

I'm sorry if this seems dim. If I were building a website I'd build a fronpage, build my other pages, insert the hyperlinks etc. I just can't seem to figure out how I do the equivalents in PT?

Thanks Alastair

Hello Alastair,

I think my answers to your earlier post cover most of this, but by all means get in touch again if you need any further help. Apologies for the delay in posts appearing on the forum as unfortunately I have to moderate posts, but they normally appear (together with my answers!) pretty quickly during UK office hours....

All the best,
David.

Hello David

I think the reason for my confusion is that I saw in a post that you'd said:

"Together with default.css, all the visual elements of the site are controlled by the files in the /html/ directory, which are standard HTML files with inline PHP"

but all the files in the /html/ directory have .php extensions and therefore I thought I should leave them alone.

Opening one up, however, I can see now that is HTML so I assume I just need to insert html code around the inline php to achieve the look and feel that I want.

Let me know if I've got the wrong end of the stick!

Hello Alastair,

Ah, yes - sorry for the confusion! Whilst the files are predominantly HTML, they do contain small sections of inline PHP, which is how the variable content is written into the page. Therefore, the files need to have the .php extension so that the web server knows to pass the files through the PHP handler.

You can however, as you have found, edit these files as if they were normal HTML, just inserting the code you need around the inline PHP - no problem at all!

Cheers,
David.
