Price Tapestry uses its own method for separating the main PHP code and HTML, so there isn't really any practical purpose in back-modifying this to work with a different template engine - you can simply use the time to author your own Price Tapestry look & feel as required.
Together with default.css, all the visual elements of the site are controlled by the files in the /html/ directory, which are standard HTML files with inline PHP so they can be changed easily to give the look & feel you want - you can even open them in most visual HTML editors!
