I would like, if possible, to sort my site feed of featured products into offer date order via a hidden field with the date in it. Is this possible and what do I need to do?

Where is the hidden field that you wish to use in the sort? Is it currently imported with the products (e.g. have you added a new field to your site using the instructions here), or is not yet part of your site?
On most servers (it's actually dependent on MySQL version), the featured products are displayed in the order you list them within the admin area, so if you are currently updating the offer date manually one option is to simply change this list to the order required. If your site is not ordering featured products by that order let me know and I have a mod that will fix this for your MySQL version...
