Hi Dave
while ago you created me image proxy script to get remote images
and if not found it displayed server side image.
I have noticed that I still get a lot missing product images but if
i refresh the browser the images load but not all the time. You warned me
before hand about the bandwidth issue using a proxy script my connection is
835kb upload and 512 download do you think this good be the cause of slow image
loading and the script timing out and loading the default image from the server.
I am think of upgrading ISP to increase server perforce to more powerfull line?
Many Thanks
Darren
Hi Dave,
Cheers for the info you are right but about i host from my home but the setup here is just like any other host I have five real servers with over 2TB storage and they are not desktop machines they are full server spec here all running linux the hardware is not an issue but it does look like it is time to invest in a leaseline as many ecommerce site are very busy too I will sort this out today.
I would never use a hosting company again, dave i have been linux admin now for over 7 years so do know fare amount about linux system and running them.
Cheers
Darren
Hi Darren,
Sounds like a goood setup - and a good idea re: the leased line...!
Cheers,
David.
Hi Darren,
The bandwidth numbers you mention sound like you may be hosting this from a home server which with this sort of proxying is bound to cause slowness and timeouts.
If this is the case, I would recommend against using the proxy script as many user requests to a page on your site will result in multiple connections to download the images and then upload them from your broadband line, so I would save this approach until using a hosted site...
Cheers,
David.
