I have had some server upgrades done which caused a few problems on my sites yesterday.
Today none of my AW links being clicked are being tracked in AW (aaghh) and as yesterday loads of my services had to be restarted, I was wondering could there be a service on apache server that could affect the tracking that uses the jump php? that may have gone down?
I had to restart SQL services on my server and a few other things, so although I have written to AW saying my clicks arent showing up, I wondered if you knew whether there could be some server setting that could effect the tracking of the jump php? links
Thanks, yes I do get to the merchant page when clicking, it does seem to be an AW problem , I just wanted to check it couldnt be anything else and especially as I had had so many server probs last few days, i thought it must be something I had done...usually is anyway...
But this is AW and they are looking into it, it is probably just a reporting thing so hopefully when fixed all days clicks etc will be registered.
Thanks
Hey Clare,
Awin do occasionally have problems with click tracking (although they're quite adament sales are never affected) and the clicks are usually updated the next day in these cases. They don't send out emails about it, but they do post on the A4U forum (a4uforum.co.uk) in the Affiliate Window section...
Affiliate Window is one of my favorite networks - the Price Tapestry demo site is almost exclusively AW merchants (a few TD feeds as well) and does really well with them.
Like all big networks, their systems will be distributed. It will work on a batch system, and I can assure you that the up-front click tracking process will be extremely robust. That means that if there are ever temporary problems with other systems (i.e. the main reporting servers), they will always be able to "catch up" once they are back online.
Hi Clare,
The crucial thing is; when you click on a link (one that goes via jump.php) do you end up at the merchant?
If you do, then there is nothing wrong with your site at all; in order to have got to the merchant the click must have gone via Affiliate Window's tracking server.
If, on the other hand, your clicks aren't getting to the merchant, first disable tracking by setting $config_useTracking = false; in config.php. Then, hover over a link (or use right-click, copy URL), and confirm that the link looks OK. Then visit the link, and again confirm that you end up at the merchant.
Basically, if you get to the merchant, there is nothing that would have gone wrong with your site that can prevent tracking by the affiliate network.
Cheers,
David.
