geotargetting

Submitted by rolli1 on Tue, 2007-08-21 16:08 in

Hi DAvid,
one of my merchants has two affiliate progs. One for US and one for UK and Europe. The datafeeds differ and the prices are given in $ ab GBP. Also a visitor form UK which orders from the US program would not count as a sale for me.

Would it be possible to instal a geotargetting for visitors, so that visitors from Europe get the UK datafeed and others the US datafeed.

Regards

Roland

Hi Roland,

I wouldn't really recommend trying to mix currencies within a single site, unless perhaps you are using the Price Tapestry back-end to show just one or maybe 2 merchants in a higher level content site; but even then I think I would still be inclined to create separate, optimised sites for each country.

What you could do is to install the 2 feeds into separate installations in 2 sub-directories, and ask your visitors to select their country when coming to your site - as this would leave everything open to crawlers etc; whereas using geotargetting would limit indexing to the country that the spider was appearing to come from...!

Cheers,
David.

Try Google as you'll find some links to 3rd party redirection scripts there.

These scripts usually redirect based upon IP address but bear in mind not all results are accurate.
