I'm very interested to create a multi level category similiar or like this , for example
Books (is the parent )
---Videos (is a child)
---Magazines (is a child)
---Video Game (is a child)
and I would like to know how to create a system to insert the thousand of multiple diferent categories of my merchant without to create a big database category mapping.
Example
I have a merchant who send me a xml with thirty diferents categories and I would to relation this whith my fix multi level category .
Any suggestion ?
Hi,
Price Tapestry doesn't support a category hierarchy, and whilst I have looked at this it is a concious decision not to support it because the quality of data in affiliate product feeds just isn't there to make it worthwhile. If this feature did exist, most users would end up dissatisfied with the results.
The big price comparison companies all have small armies of employees creating their category hierarchy and matching products together and within that hierarchy. Unfortunately, there is no way to easily automate it - especially with the quality of data available.
One alternative that some Price Tapestry users have had success with is to create sub-categories by installing the script multiple times into separate sub-directories of your site, where each sub-directory is master category name, for example /electronics/. It is then quite straight forward to create a "master" search box on the top level with a drop down for the main categories. Within each installation, you then have the sub-categories for that master category taken from the merchants categories in the feeds. The instructions for doing this are in the following thread:

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
David.
