I've activated the 'related products' feature. But am wondering, hwo does it determine what products are related? The products it is showing as related don't seem related. I would expect it would base it off of the names of the products. i.e. Bill Blass dress shirt would have related products showing different colors or sizes. But they would be based on the name (Bill Blass) of the shirt.

Hi,

The related products feature simply performs a search using the product name as the keywords and the main product category (if set) and then excludes the first result (which would be the product itself).

In this case, I would imagine that the different colours or sizes are not differentiated in the product name. However, if your feed provides this information in other fields you could use it to construct unqiue product names for each garment type by using the Text After filter. For example, if your feed has the fields COLOR and SIZE, you could add a Text After filter to the product name as follows:

 %COLOR% %SIZE%

(note the leading space)

If this was a possibility (it all depends on your feed) then having done this a search for Bill Blass dress shirt should return other colours and sizes as related products.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
David.
