Hi David, updated the the plugin, thanks, but I now have the two feeds separated out as sitemaps, each with the same error message:
Missing XML tag
This required tag is missing. Please add it and resubmit.

That's strange - can you check that your sitemap looks OK by browsing to the index manually, e.g.
http://www.example.com/sitemap.php
(for each feed as <sitemap> you should see <loc> and <lastmod> tags)
...and then the per-feed sitemap for your smallest merchant;
http://www.example.com/sitemap.php?filename=Merchant.xml
(for each product as <url> you should see <sitemap> tag)
If all looks OK, could you let me know the actual tag name that Webmaster Tools is saying is missing - I think it got missed out from the copy / paste of the error...
