Future Upgrading

Submitted by kend on Tue, 2016-09-06 14:53 in

Hi David,

In 2009 someone asked about upgrading and you said it's better to not upgrade. So I'm wondering if that's still the case in 2016?

Specifically, I'm wondering, as in the case of Wordpress, if there can be a child folder where developer mods are stored so that new versions of PriceTapestry might be installed.

This might be a "big question" which involves more than I understand, but thought I would ask anyway.

Hi Ken,

Because the script is designed to be so customisable, and many users make lots of changes as can be seen from the forum, upgrading by simply replacing the files with new versions would overwrite all the changes to functionality made.

Of course, the latest distribution can be used for any new sites, and if there is a modification on the forum that you would like to use but is documented against an earlier distribution, please just ask on that thread for the same instructions for the latest version and I'll update them accordingly.

In terms of new functionality in the script and an established installation running an earlier distribution, I am more than happy to help "back port" any new features into an existing site, and for most features I only need to do this once so in most cases, the code is all ready to go...!

Cheers,
David.

Thanks David, as I thought, and just needed to verify!
