Comparison number in search results is different to detail page

Submitted by Nic0904 on Thu, 2016-03-31 16:07 in

Hi David

I am finding this in quite a few pages, the number of comparisons for a product does not match the actual number of merchants when you go to the detail page. Usually the number of merchants on the detail page is more.

An example is here

In the My Friend Emily product

Search results shows 5 comparisons
{link saved}

Detail page shows 6 comparisons

{link saved}

There are several other examples on the same search results page

I suspect it is as simple as the comparison count is case sensitive and the detail page is case free.

Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,

The issue here, rather than case sensitivity, is indexed field inconsistency between merchants. The first URL in your email is a /brand/Brand-Name/ page, so this will only compare merchants where there is not only a product name match but also a brand match.

When clicking through to the product page, brand is then dis-regarded and all merchants for that product will be displayed, including those that do not have the product branded in the same way as the other merchants.

To resolve this, use the Imported Analysis tool (/admin/ > Tools > Feed Utilities) to study the imported Brand value for each merchant in the anomaly by filtering by product name and you will be able to see the imported Brand value. This should indicate a candidate for Brand Mapping;

However, if this reveals that for merchants not considered in the /brand/ search there is no brand value available, this can applied through Product Mapping;

You can use the Product Mapping functionality just for the custom field values, in this case Brand, and with a Product Mapping entry in place with the required Custom Brand name configured, that Brand name will be used for all merchants for that product...

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

Thank-you for that now I understand and see the logic of the difference in the counts.

Some of the merchants brand setting is very poor or missing entirely so it is no surprise this would cause us some issues. I have a plan to try to remedy most of this using filters

Thanks for the help

Cheers
Dave
