Manually add product information

Submitted by pricetap on Fri, 2014-10-24 01:19 in

Hello,

I was just wondering if it would be possible to add the product details manually, rather than using product feeds to populate the product info, and then link the appropriate merchant products to their respective pages. I've been trying to do it through phpmyadmin, but I'm not having much luck (I'm a novice). Everytime I input a product and try and search for it, it still shows in my pricetapestry admin as zero products (but the product is logged in phpmyadmin). Are there specific fields that must be entered in a specific way? I'm running the template on my computer using xampp.

I've tried searching the forums, but it seems everyone else is doing it through the product feeds, as far as I can tell. Love this script by the way, I've just started working with it, but it seems so versitile; really looking forward to seeing how far I can take it!

Thanks,
Islam

Hello Islam, and welcome to the forum!

By far the easiest way to manage your own data is to create your own feed(s), which can be done easily using a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel, or OpenOffice.org Calc (which is free).

Simply create the column headings along row 1 with the required fields of Product Name, Buy URL and Price, plus any optional columns you wish to use from Description, Image URL, Category and Brand, and then manage your product data one item per row.

It's best to keep your master copy in your spreadsheet programs native file format, and then whenever you want to update your site, use the Export function to save the spreadsheet as a .csv (comma separated values) file. The default export options in both Microsoft Excel and OpenOffice.org Calc will create a .csv file that is compatible with Price Tapestry.

If you wish to manage products for multiple merchants in one file, simply add a Merchant column to the sheet and register this as a field on Feed Registration Step 2 instead of entering the merchant name manually as you would for a single merchant feed.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

Excellent, that worked for me; that is a much easier way of doing it. I'm sure that won't be the last of my questions... Wonderful service by the way; everyone raves about it, and I couldn't agree more!

Thanks again!
