sorry for the extreme n00b question but how do I add 120x600 cpm banners to search and product pages without messing up the current layout?
One thing you could do is make the changes described in this thread:

That shows you how to create the content in columns, whilst adding your own code into the left or right hand column (as required). You can then add your skyscraper banner code into those columns.
