Category mapping possible suggestion

Hi David,
This is just a suggested feature:
Would it be possible to have Master categories added to the category mapping system?

It could work like this:

Create a Master category.

Then there would be a text link next to the Master category name 'Add sub-categories'.
You would then click on the link and set up the subcategories virtually exactly as you do with the current category mapping system.

The mapping would be applied to the sub-categories not the main category.
Then in the admin area you would see a list of the master categories with all the associated sub-categories underneath it and as it is at the moment with the 'configure' and 'delete' links next to the subcategory names.

Then in the front end of the site you could then have a list of 'Master categories' which when clicked on would display the subcategory list, which would then obviously be hyperlinks to the mapped categories for that particular subcategory.

It would make it a bit easier for users to navigate through sites with a lot of products.

Does that make sense? I hope it does.

Hi Andy,

Given the poor quality of category information in feeds, a manual categorisation does makes more sense than trying to use hierarchical values from merchant data.

As you're probably aware from previous posts i've been hesitant to incorporate additional category code as it does get disproportionately complex - but it is something I will look to include in a future version, although I couldn't give any timescales for that at the moment.

Cheers,
David.
