Hi David I have a few of these symbols in my product names � (they are displayed as a diamond shape with a question mark inside) , these should be £ signs. I have tried search and replace but it only works on some of them.
any ideas what i maybe doing wrong?

That sounds like your feeds are in a different character set to that configured in your config.php at line 4. The default is utf-8, but your feeds may be in ISO-8859-1. Edit your config.php and change line 4 as follows:
$config_charset = "iso-8859-1";Alternatively, if you have feeds that are in utf-8 and need to leave your site configured in that character set you could add UTF8 Decode filters to the product name and description fields for any feed that displays invalid characters. Don't forget to re-import after creating filters...
