https not registering "click reference"url's

Submitted by Perce2 on Tue, 2016-12-27 09:32 in

Just changing my sites over to https seems to have caused the jump.php to stop registering referral url's with affiliates. I notice in their control panels there is no longer any "click reference" and url being shown!

Apart from not knowing which actual link raised the sale, is this going to cause a problem with the affiliates and the merchants ?
Maybe they will decline sales !

Anybody ?

Hi,

A browser will not pass the referring URL from an https site to a non-https URL, which is an important security feature of the protocol. So, if you have an https site, but the Buy URL is http, the referring URL will not be passed to them.

I would contact the network / affiliate, and ask whether the Buy URL in their feeds should be updated to https. Almost certainly using https would work (you could check by taking a Buy URL directly from the feed and trying it in your web browser with https:// instead of http:// at the start), but I wouldn't just go ahead and do that without contacting the provider of the feed because if https is supported, Buy URLs in the feed should be https, and then referral URLs will be passed as expected from either http or https publisher sites.

Cheers,
David.
