Just wanted to reply to this quickly this-evening for you;
To password protect your /admin/ area you can set a password at line 2 of the config.advanced.php for example:
$config_adminPassword = "password";
There is no logout as such, the login cookie is temporary and will expire at the end of your web browser session so you are automatically logged out.
Thanks for your other post about installation and your template, there are several items there so I will take a look through those for you first thing tomorrow...
