Optimal HW

Hi David, what is optimal HW for 5.000.000 items? Is there any large pricetapestry instance on the market?

Is dedicated quad core server with 32 GB RAM and 3xSSD in RAID 5 OK?

What it is your personal suggestion to boost search queries?

Thanks a lot

Hana

Hello Hana,

Always great to hear from long time customers!

Check out this thread for discussion of server configuration for large installations. Please be aware that even approaching 1M products performance is highly dependent on hardware and software configuration, disk speed etc, and in most cases I would recommend keeping large installations down to around the 100K mark - lots of users build categorised sites and use a separate installation for each category and there is some discussion about this approach in this thread (and a download for searching multiple installations from a single top level search form).

Regarding server configuration, with 32GB RAM you can really crank up MySQL's sort and key buffer sizes - I would start with 512M for each, using

key_buffer_size=512M
sort_buffer_size=512M

Boosting search queries - search engines are looking for "value add" on top of generic datafeed content which is why I have been giving attention to the product mapping capabilities including the new Product Mapping by RegExp introduced in 15/01A, and if you have access to feeds including standard product codes such as EAN (European Article Number) or ISBN for example there is a download for Automatic Product Mapping by Unique ID which might be of interest...

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
David.
