Upgrade practice

What is the best practice for upgrading to new releases?

A few of my sites have a lot of modified files. Have the original files been modified / upgraded or just the admin section? Trying to determine the best route to take with staying up to date.

Thanks,
Tommy!

Hello Tommy,

As many users modify their sites so heavily I don't actually recommend attempting to "upgrade" an existing site; I have provided upgrade packages for some of the more popular upgrades (check downloads page) - for example the new template from 14/06A is available as a standalone replacement for the html/ folder of earlier distributions)

Otherwise, what I tend to suggest is users let me know what features they would like to incorporate into an existing site, and I'll work out the changes required to "back port" the features into their existing installations - so if there was anything specifically that you were after, if you could confirm the current distribution that you are running (see Support Info page in /admin/) and the features you'd like to include and I'll point you in the right direction...

Cheers,
David.

Hi Tommy,

Most patches are straight forward from 12/10B - let me know what you wanted to include and I'll point you in the right direction or ask for the necessary files to apply the patch for you...

Cheers,
David.
