HTML and line breaks in feed

Submitted by Willem Siebe Sp... on Sat, 2013-07-27 19:32 in

Hi,

Just started using PT for the first time.
So, also need to upload a feed for the first time.

The programm I download the feed with offers me to remove HTML and linebreaks.

In this post (http://www.pricetapestry.com/node/2637) I think I understand that if I import it with HTML and linebreaks, I can still remove this because in your script there is a 'Strip HTML' filter available.
Is this correct?

In that case, do you advice me to NOT remove HTML and linebreak when I download the feed? I just don't know which benefit is has to keep it or not.
And should I download CSV, XML or RSS?

Kind regards,

Willem-Siebe

Hello Willem-Siebe and welcome to the forum!

I prefer to use feeds without HTML content - strictly speaking, since a feed is not HTML they shouldn't really contain it, but in many cases they do.

Another reason to request feeds without HTML is that occasionally, links end up in product descriptions that are _not_ your affiliate link, which could result in losing commission so if you have the option, I would always request feeds without HTML, or HTML stripped as in this case...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

You are totally right about those links not being mine, it happend already I now see ;-).

I'm going to download it without HTML, assuming that XML is the right format..

Kind regards,

Willem-Siebe
