Affiliate Window feed - some XML files don't register

Submitted by redspan on Tue, 2007-11-20 13:27 in

Hello,

Some of the AW feeds don't work when I try to register them. They download and unzip to XML format, and I have checked this by opening them in a browser, but when I try to to register the auto detect process thinks they are csv files, so I have changed this by using the instructions here: http://www.pricetapestry.com/node/1454, but each combination I've tried doesn't show any products when I try to register.

This should work shouldn't it? I've tried lower case 'products/prod' too.

xml|PRODUCTS/PRODUCT/

for a file that begins:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<!DOCTYPE products (View Source for full doctype...)>
- <products>
- <merch mId="486" mName="Shipton & Heneage Limited">

Hi Ben,

That's the new format Affiliate Window feed, which has the format string:

xml|PRODUCTS/PROD/

...however they should auto-detect correctly. If they're not it implies that there is some pre-amble on the XML, but have a go with the above format string first...

Cheers,
David.

Hi David,

No, xml|PRODUCTS/PROD/ doesn't work either.

Is there another workaround or will we have to forget these onese?

Regards,
Ben

Hi Ben,

I (and many other PT users) run lots of sites with the new AW feeds - they should be working fine - but I just noticed I posted the wrong format string - it should be:

xml|PRODUCTS/MERCH/PROD/

If that doesn't work, can you email me one of the .zip files you have downloaded and I'll take a look for you and see what's causing the problem...

Reply to your reg code or forum registration email is the easiest way to get me...

Cheers
David.

Funny thing is, I've just downloaded a file from AW that does work and checked the start and it has the same two lines of preamble.

My mistake - I was trying to register a file containing no data!

Just to tag on to this, if you save the downloaded feed name with a space in it, e.g. 'Mister Shoe.xml', this will also result in you not being able to register the feed.

Cheers.
