Hi there,

This is completely off the topic but I would appreciate very much if anyone from the forum could help me with this issue. I am now installing Linux = Centos 5 on my machine. I am trying to figure out the correct way to configure my network settings. I would like to know which static IP address I should use while installing Centos 5 on my machine. I have a public static IP from my ISP and I am behind a router. I can see in instructions that it is usually local static IP address that should be used but I am not sure if this is the case also if one has a public static IP.

There are two options: enable IPv4 (with IP address and mask that needs to be supplied) and enable IPv6. Do I disable IPv6 as suggested in some instructions?

I am also confused about the correct DNS servers to use. My domain name is using ISP's DNS servers. Is it OK if I use them or do I have to use my router's address? I am thinking about which is faster and more efficient way to use DNS. I will be serving the public abroad where my domain name servers DNS are located and I thought I could use these for Centos 5 network configuration but I am not sure if I have to use my router's address instead.

Many Thanks

Bob
